Question from BambuBunny: Should I Get a Tattoo to Bring Attention Away From My Scars?
I have two scars on my back that are directly on my upper shoulderblades (one scar on each). The one on the left is just two scarred dots (i don’t mind that as much) but the one on my right is approx. an inch long 1/4 inch wide. it’s sorta small but its so obvious esp when i wear wifebeaters. I’m extremely self-conscious about it. (btw they are fairly new scars approx. 2 months)
So i am deciding whether or not to get a tattoo (not necessarily covering it) but it will take the attention off. I already have a lowerback tat (its a classy one not a trashy one, its has a old-royalty (victorian-style) feel to it) and swallows (sharp winged, not bubbled) on my lower front. All of them self-designed. Now i designed a set of angel wings too, not enough to cover my back, but it takes most of the upper back region. I know it’s cliche, but theres something femine and aesthetic about it that i like. There’s that option or i could design something on my right shoudler blade. But i keep feeling that i might regret getting such a visible tattoo for future-working (corporation) jobs. But then again, i’d probably still cover up my back because of the scars…Should i enjoy my decorating my body while i’m still young? or face the constant “how’d you get those scars?”
p.s. i’m extremely uncomfortable with discussing how i got my scars. And an avid cami-wifebeater wearer.
btw, i want the wings, im just hesitate that i when i get older i’ll be old and wrinkly (and prob with wobbly bits) with a huge tat on my back, if i still have this ….tat/peircing personality/ spunk, i won’t mind it.

I would say not to get it just because you want to cover up your scars. Besides, people are going to want to really look at your tattoo and you may find yourself having people see your scars who wouldn’t have otherwise looked at your back.

first things first if you dont like tattos dont, second its small so most people wont relize it so i say no dont its not worth it for a few cuts pretty much

Honestly, future work shouldn’t worry you, if you're getting a job where they might judge based on tattoos, they probe won't see your back. If you’re self-conscious then I'd say do it. First off, the wings may be considered cliché but if you design them, they aren't your average everyday wings. Second, depending on what kind of wings (folded back, extended) they could have a deeper meaning. Such as, you’re self-conscious, so wings folded back covering your scars could be a subconscious sign that you're protected or protecting yourself. I would guess people wouldn't be as inclined to ask about your scars even if they noticed them. If they're extended, it could show others that you are open and they may assume you'd be open to answering questions about your scars.
P.S. I have an angel wing folded back on my left side and an extended bat wing on my left (both self drawn), and most times people don't ask about the horrible acne scars I have beneath either of them.

Don’t get a tattoo just to cover up a scar. Get a tattoo because you really want one.
I have a rather large scar on my chest on my sternum. Its about 1/4 inches wide and 4 inches long. I can understand why you wouldn’t like yours, but it is something that is personal to you. If you feel uncomfortable talking about them, simply don’t answer people’s questions.
