Question from DK: MEPS question about physical?

Ok when I was around fifteen I began using heroin intravenously for a year, I was young stupid and it became an epidemic in my area. Anyways I have successfully been in recovery for the past 8 years (no drug use or drinking at all). But I did have track marks, I went to a plastic surgeon and had a “scar removal” surgery. But I still have a scar on the inside middle of my arm directly above a vein, now it looks more surgical.

I am worried about the doctors at MEPS seeing this scar, my recruiter said I could just say I fell through glass when I was younger and semi-recently had a hypertrophic scar removed by a plastic surgeon or just say I had stitches when I was younger.

I have read some horror stories on here about MEPS harassing people about scars. I was wondering what you people think, do you think this is a believable story, will the doctors know better, how closely do they inspect you? I’m just concerned, I really want to join the Marines and serve my country but I do not want to go to MEPS and get caught lying. So any advice or informed opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The doctors will look at your scars and ask how you got them, if you tell them it’s from stitches or surgery or anything like that they may ask for additional documentation. I also have some dodgy looking scars on my forearms, when the doctor asked how I got them I just told her they were from childhood injuries and no further questions were asked. Good Luck
