How To Reduce The Itching From Burn Scars – Why Does a Burn That Turned Into a Scar Itch?

Long after an injury over the skin has healed and scar has formed as a result, one may experience an itching sensation around the area. This can be bothersome for most and universally present among scar patients. Because of this, one may start to ask how to reduce the itching from burn scars.

Itching is caused by the overlapping tissues formed by the scar itself. This tissue lack the nerve endings that is present in normal skin but due to the surrounding normal tissue that still has nerve endings, they become stimulated by scar tissue thus the characteristic itch kicks in.

The best way on how to reduce the itching from burn scars is applying topical lotions over the area to loosen or stretch the scar tissue area. A hypoallergenic lotion may help relieve itch in a relative amount of time. Also, anti-itch creams such as hydrocortisone is also advisable to deal with the problem. Massage the area continuously with these lotions until you feel relieved from the itching.

However, if the aforementioned treatments on how to reduce the itching from burn scars fail to deliver, a patient may consult his doctor for an analgesic cream. One such analgesic that is mostly recommended is lidocaine ointment.

Lidocaine is a powerful topical solution used for relieving all those itching sensations that one may experience in their skin. This type of ointment is strong enough to create a numbing effect on the area. Lidocaine is also available over the counter. Several dosages of this drug are obtainable by request from your medical specialist.
